How AI Is Changing Software Development: Two NOVA talks at NDC Oslo
Two NOVA experts are taking the stage at this year's NDC Oslo to share their experiences with AI and its impact on software development. While one session explores autonomous AI agents in development teams, the other looks at what remains uniquely human when AI can generate code faster than ever before.
Building an Autonomous Development Workflow
In March 2026, the team led by Hallstein Brøtan at Nordic Corporate Bank completed 572 pull requests. One year earlier, the number stood at 141. A key contributor is Nils Georg, an AI agent developed by Hallstein and Jan Ødegård. Integrated directly into the team's workflow, the agent helps with everything from requirements gathering and implementation planning to coding, testing and code reviews.
At NDC Oslo, Hallstein will present How We Built an Autonomous Development Workflow at Nordic Corporate Bank, sharing how the team has introduced AI agents into their development process and what they've learned along the way. The session offers practical insight into both the opportunities and challenges of AI-driven development, particularly in environments where governance, quality and control remain critical. Hallstein is a Senior Consultant at Novanet and has worked with C# and .NET since 2007. In recent years, he has focused on how AI can take on a more active role within development teams. Staying Curious in the Age of AI
Tomas Hensrud Gulla approaches the AI discussion from a different angle.
After decades of software development, he is interested in what happens when developers can hand over increasingly more coding work to AI.
His session, What Should Developers Do When AI Writes the Code?, explores how developers can continue learning, experimenting and creating value in a world where AI generates more and more code.
"Maybe our job won't simply be to sit back and review code written by AI. It's important that we remain curious, care about how things actually work, and continue thinking like programmers," says Tomas.
Known for his experiments with unconventional programming languages and creative approaches to technology, Tomas uses humour and curiosity to tackle a serious topic: how we continue learning when technology removes much of the friction from the development process. Tomas is CTO at Novacare, an Optimizely MVP, and a returning NDC speaker following a well-received session last year.

Although Hallstein and Tomas approach AI from different directions, both sessions explore the same underlying question: how developers can adapt and thrive as AI becomes a natural part of software development.
